This page may be updated from time to time; material changes get a new “last updated” date at the top. Last updated: October 9, 2026. Effective on publication of nearbyelectricians.com.
Change note, October 9, 2026: we added “Text messages from Nearby Electricians” below, which sets out the one kind of text message we send — a homeowner’s request, to a licensed contractor who agreed on a phone call to receive it — and states that we do not sell or share text-message consent data. We also added “Calls and texts to contractors” under who we share information with. This note stays on the page for at least 30 days.
Nearby Electricians is an electrical contractor directory covering Texas and Minnesota. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and how to exercise your rights. We have written it to be specific rather than reassuring: where something might surprise you, we say it plainly.
We publish electrical information and a directory of companies drawn from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation’s official license records. Reading the site requires nothing from you. If you submit a quote request, we send the details you provide to electrical contractors so they can contact you about the work. That is the entire purpose of the form, and it is the one meaningful disclosure of your information we make. We do not sell your personal information to data brokers, and we do not sell sensitive personal data.
Information you give us. When you submit a quote request or contact form, we collect what you enter: your name, phone number, email address, property location (address, city, county, ZIP), the service you need, and any details you add in a message field.
Information collected automatically when you browse. Our pages record technical and marketing-attribution data: the page URL you are on and the county or service page context; the referring website and landing page; marketing parameters in the URL (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_term, utm_content) and advertising click identifiers (such as gclid, fbclid, msclkid, ttclid); your device class, browser and operating system, screen and viewport size, time zone and language; and timestamps. A first-touch record of how you originally arrived is stored in your browser’s local storage for up to 90 days.
Searches you run on the site. When you use the search box — including its “Use my location” button — we record what you typed, what it resolved to (the ZIP, county, state and service we matched, and whether we found a match), the page you searched from, and the time. The page you searched from is stored as a path only, with advertising click identifiers stripped out of it. We also store a one-way hash derived from your IP address: it is salted with keys unique to this installation and truncated to twenty characters, and it exists so we can tell one person searching twelve times from twelve people searching once. The address itself is never stored, the hash cannot be turned back into an address, and it means nothing outside this site. Nothing is recorded at all when your browser sends Global Privacy Control, and nothing is recorded for crawlers or for searches that did not start on one of our own pages. These rows hold no name, email address, phone number or browser user-agent string, and they are not connected to a quote request. We delete these rows two years after they are recorded. Because nothing in them identifies you, we cannot single out one person’s search rows to delete on request before then.
Information added by our servers. When a form is submitted, our server appends the browser user-agent string, the referring URL, and an approximate country and region derived from network headers supplied by our hosting and network providers. We do not store your full IP address with form submissions.
Cookies and similar technologies. We and our service providers use cookies and local storage for site functionality and spam prevention. Most browsers let you refuse or delete cookies; the site remains readable if you do. Analytics: Google Analytics 4, added 15 September 2026. We load Google’s tag to count pageviews, how far down a page people read, which links they click, and whether a quote form was submitted. We record which provider profile was viewed, because which businesses readers look at is what tells us whom to verify next. We do not send Google your name, email or phone number, and we do not use Google Ads remarketing. Google sets its own cookies to do this; refusing them leaves the site fully readable.
To route your quote request to electrical contractors and let them contact you about it. To operate, secure and debug the website, and to prevent spam and abuse. To measure which pages and referral sources are useful, in aggregate. To comply with law and to enforce our terms.
We do not use your information to build advertising profiles about you, and we do not perform profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.
Electrical contractors. When you submit a quote request, we send the details you entered to companies serving your area so they can contact you about the work. That is the purpose of the form and you are asked to consent to it at the point of submission; the consent wording and its timestamp are stored with your submission.
Calls and texts to contractors. To pass your request on, we may telephone licensed electrical contractors serving your county and read them the details you submitted. If a contractor agrees on that call to receive your request by text message, we send it once, by text, to the number they gave us. Those are the only calls and texts we make on your behalf. The contractor may then call, text or email you about your request under their own policies.
Service providers who run the site for us. Our hosting provider, our transactional email provider, and our spam-prevention provider process data on our instructions in order to run the site. They are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
Legal. We disclose information where the law requires it, or to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Nearby Electricians — operated by COMNIO LLC — sends one kind of text message: a homeowner’s request for electrical work, sent to a licensed electrical contractor who agreed, on a phone call with us, to receive that request by text. We ask for that agreement on the call, we record who agreed, when, at which number and for which request, and we send one message per request the contractor agreed to receive. We do not send marketing or promotional text messages, and we do not text homeowners. Message frequency varies with the requests a contractor agrees to receive. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to any message to opt out at any time; reply HELP for help, or use the contact page. Agreeing to receive a request by text is not a condition of being listed, of receiving requests by other means, or of buying anything. The program is described in full at nearbyelectricians.com/text-messages/.
We do not sell or share your SMS opt-in data or personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. That includes mobile numbers and text-message consent: they are not shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. A contractor’s consent to our texts is not passed to anyone and authorizes no one else’s messages.
Quote requests and contact submissions are kept for as long as we need them to operate the service and to show what was sent and consented to, and then deleted. Search rows are deleted after two years, as described above. First-touch attribution in your browser’s local storage expires after 90 days, and you can clear it yourself at any time by clearing site data.
Depending on where you live you may have the right to access, correct, delete or obtain a copy of your personal information, and to opt out of sale or sharing — we do neither. Texas residents have these rights under the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act. To exercise any of them, use the contact page and tell us what you want done. We will not discriminate against you for asking.
We honor Global Privacy Control. When your browser sends it, no search row is recorded at all.
This site is not directed to children and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.
Company records in the directory come from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation’s published license data — business name, license type and number, license expiration date, county of record and published contact details. This is public record information about businesses, not personal information collected from you. If you are a listed company and want a record corrected or removed, see For electrical contractors.
